Artist Bio

Robert Wayt Smith

bob black and white .jpg

Bob is a realist painter with over twenty five years of passionate experience as a freelance artist and illustrator. His work is inspired by the old masters such as Waterhouse, Gerome and Rembrandt. He works predominately in oil; studies are produced using a variety of mediums including pencil, chalk, and silverpoint.  Bob works in a traditional style of painting- applying several layers of glazes to build the illusion of depth and create a glow from within the work.  He is a master of capturing timeless imagery at intimate moments. Through Bob’s mind’s eye, we are transported to times and places where beauty, legend, and fantasy pervade the landscape; where the unreal and the barely-imaginable are commonplace.

Bob continues to hold solo shows and regularly guest appears at exhibits and conventions.  His work has appeared in countless publications and in 2006, Bob was honored to exhibit his work in Cairo Egypt as a member of “International Artists for Peace and Humanity.” He is an active member of the artist advisory committee of the Mattawoman Creek Arts Center.  His work is on display in The Wayt Gallery at the Maryland Renaissance Festival weekends from August through October. Currently, Bob is working on freelance projects and private commissions.
